Legislator Jon Cooper was proud to present a proclamation to Sarah Ruppert in honor of her selection as the 18th Legislative Districts 2002 Volunteer of the Year. Sarah has a long history of volunteer service to our community. She established the Bird Hospital in 1973 at her home in Lloyd Harbor, taking in distressed wildlife for treatment, care and release. In 1974, she established Coast Watch, which was designated the official response team for oil spills. From 1975-1977, Sarah served as President of the Huntington Audubon Society. She also co-founded Volunteers for Wildlife in 1982 and served as its volunteer Executive Director for 20 years.
