Legislator Jon Cooper held a press conference in front of the County Legislature in Hauppauge to announce his introduction of a resolution calling upon New York State to raise the minimum wage from its current level of $5.15 per hour to $7.10 by January 1, 2006. An increase in the state’s minimum wage would bring New York much-needed parity with other states in our region. Currently, New York has the greatest disparity between minimum and average wage earners of any state in the nation.
