Legislator Jon Cooper met with Congressman Steve Israel, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, District Attorney Thomas Spota and Police Commissioner Richard Dormer to announce the success of a three-week police sweep by officers of the 2nd Precinct to crack down on gang violence and crime in Huntington Station. The sweep resulted in 174 arrests, 66 of whom were suspected gang members. It also led to the confiscation of assault rifles, handguns, knives and various other weapons, as well as illegal drugs including crack-cocaine. The sweep was made possible through grants secured by Legislator Cooper and Congressman Israel.
