Legislator Jon Cooper held a press conference with local elected officials and business leaders to announce his "Safe Communities Initiative," a 12-month pilot program that would install ten police security cameras on public streets in high-crime areas of Huntington Station and other parts of the Town of Huntington. It is modeled after similar programs already implemented successfully by dozens of cities and towns across the country. Police departments report that the use of this technology has resulted in dramatic decreases in gang violence, drug dealing, vandalism and other street crimes.
