Legislator Jon Cooper held a press conference to announce passage of his breakthrough legislation that directs Suffolk County government to obtain at least 25% of its electricity needs from non-polluting, renewable energy sources by the year 2010. This represents a commitment to "Green Power" technologies (such as wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and hydroelectric) totaling as much as $10 million over the next five years. Legislator Cooper was joined by representatives of the following Long Island environmental organizations: Citizens Campaign for the Environment, New York League of Conservation Voters, Long Island Sierra Club, Renewable Energy Long Island, Sustainable Energy Alliance of Long Island and the Long Island Neighborhood Network.
