Legislator Jon Cooper proudly presented proclamations to 22 selfless students from Cold Spring Harbor High School, each of whom volunteered to donate at least 10 inches of their hair to Locks of Love. This nationwide, non-profit organization provides high-quality hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss, most often due to a medical condition known as alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The volunteer effort was coordinated by Kathleen Fristensky, a teacher at the school. In addition to the girls who generously donated their hair, more than 200 other students helped to raise over $10,000, more than covering the entire production costs of two wigs.
